Gerhard earned his law degree (L.L.B) at the University of Pretoria in Pretoria, South Africa. He volunteered at the pro bono Law Clinic of the University of Pretoria and was an active member of the executive council of the University Moot Court Society during law school.
After earning his law degree, he was admitted to the Pretoria Society of Advocates, where he completed his formal pupilage in 2014 and started his practice later that year. Gerhard practiced exclusively in civil litigation, focusing on commercial transactions, insolvency, employment law, and organized labour disputes. During practice in South Africa, he represented clients in most of the High Courts of South Africa and has appeared in several reported cases.
Gerhard also taught as a teaching assistant in the Department of Social Dimensions of Justice for the University of South Africa and formed part of the Management Committee of a JSE-Listed Forestry Company.
In 2023, he immigrated to Calgary, and he is currently in the final stages of completing his examinations for the National Committee on Accreditation of the Federation of Law Societies of Canada to start his licensing process within Canada.
