Jeneba is an employment and human rights lawyer with significant experience assisting both employee and business side clients to navigate complex workplace matters. Jeneba routinely advises both federally and provincially regulated employees and employers on a broad range of employment related issues including wrongful dismissal claims, employment contract drafting and disputes, compliance with provincial employment legislation, workplace discrimination and accommodation issues, and complaints under the Alberta Human Rights Act and the Canada Human Rights Act.
Experience
Prior to joining Cashion Legal, Jeneba worked at a national employment law firm where she routinely represented employees at all stages of the litigation process. Jeneba is also a former Crown Prosecutor, making her both a bold and effective advocate for all her clients. Jeneba has acted for clients before all levels of court in Alberta, and has represented clients before the Alberta Human Rights Tribunal, the Alberta Labour Relations Board and the Canadian Industrial Relations Board. She is also well versed in alternative dispute resolution, and routinely represents clients at mediation, judicial dispute resolution, and during case management or settlement conferences.
Credentials
Jeneba holds a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Calgary, a Master’s degree in Conflict Resolution from the University of Ottawa, and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Political Science from Acadia University. During Law School, Jeneba volunteered with Pro-Bono Students Canada, Student Legal Assistance, LEVEL (formerly Canadian Lawyers Abroad) and the Civil Claims Duty Counsel Project, which fostered her keen interest in facilitating access to justice and acting as a tenacious advocate for others.
While finishing her Master’s degree at the University of Ottawa, Jeneba completed substantive training with the Canadian Institute for Conflict Resolution, leaving her well versed in negotiating successful and pragmatic resolutions for both individual and business side clients.
Get to know Jeneba
Before embarking on her legal career, Jeneba completed an internship with a non-profit organization in Ghana, where she worked on various access to justice issues facing West-African youth. She also worked as a Flood Recovery Caseworker for the Canadian Red Cross, where she actively helped Calgarians recover from the 2013 Floods.
In her spare time Jeneba enjoys spending time in the mountains with her chocolate Labrador Retriever Luka, travelling the world (20 countries and counting so far), and staying active with boxing and Pilates classes.
